Floor patching

One of the floor ribs was very thin on the drivers side. Rust and probably some spilled battery acid to blame.

So I stole a little more of Bob's floor off danidad.



Cut a new patch (below the old pitted section):


Welded it in:


Next onto the handbrake holes, which were thin and like swiss cheese. So cut it out:



Cut a new patch (with slight curve dut to it being on the zoorst tunnel):

Floor patches

Have been making some slow progress.

Bought some steel for patching for $10 for a 2.5m x 1.5m sheet. Not ideal thickness and not zinc coated, but will do for now.

Fabbed up a replacement rear beaver panel [pics later].

Cleaned up and patched the passenger side floor to wall section [no pics yet].

Kicked the shell over on it's other side.

Patched the floor at the rear:


Cut out some rust under the drivers side cross member. Patched with some small pieces of floor from danidad's "Bob" donor mini I had laying around. Had to be creative, since the pieces weren't big enough to form a single patch, and weren't very straight either. Treated the inside of the crossmember with rust converter and fish oil as best I could. Haven't had a chance to grind the welds yet.




I may go and get some more donor floor and cut some more out yet so that I can treat the inside of the crossmember more fully.

You can see to the left of the patches in the above photos, another area right on the rib that needs cutting and replacing. It is all banged out of shape and very pitted. Looks like someone has tried to braze it up in the past too.


But the floor is getting closer to being ready for paint. Next I will have a go at bending up a sill panel for the passenger side.


Here you can see the handbrake mounting holes, which someone has had a few goes at. I will replace this section as well. Below that you can see a piece of donor floor which is different in colour.

My air nibbler has been collateral damage. I dropped it and of course it laned right on it's nib. Thought it was ok til I tried to use it and the end broke off. Bugger.
