Stripping & POR-15

So more stripping over the past few weekends. All quite boring really.

There was quite a bit of bog which the chemical paint stripper really doesn't bring up. In that last photo you can see a dent that goes down the whole rear body of the car just below door handle height. Looks like a good side swipe.

Last bits of rust left on the car now. Drivers hinge panel. You can see some rust holes. Thought I sould start small and explore.

Ok, so looks like we will need to cut some more.

I cleaned, cut and replaced some of the inner panel, the rest got rust converted and POR-15.

I cleaned up the tray with the wire brush, sanded by hand, and prepped with Metal Ready before two coats of POR-15.

The POR-15 really is quite amazing stuff. Really tough when it dries. Really glossy.

I think I will use it on the roof gutters, engine bay cross member, all my rust repairs (to seal & stop moisture getting into any bog I use), and subframes.

Lastly, I started sealing under the front gards and rear tray with rust preventing tar stuff.

Stripping & Trolley Chop

I chopped the top off my trolley on the weekend to get the shell closer to the ground to work on the roof. It's pretty much at road height now.

Pulled the roof vent out.
Paint stipper and elbow grease followed:

The roof had a bit of surface rust under the paint. Especially on the edges of the ridges. Cleaned up with the wire brush and treated with rust converter.

Getting closer & closer to paint and still haven't decided on a colour.

Stripping & Beaver Panel

I've had a helper in the garage lately. Here she is stripping the rear doors for
me:

Like almost everything on the car, the doors had been bodged. They seem to have
taken a big hit. Up to about 15mm of bog in places.

It's hard to see the depth, but we left the bog in the center because if I decid
e to fix these door I will cut that piece out.

Meanwhile I've been busy working on the front beaver panel:

The whole front end really needs to be replaced, but I just don't have the time.
